The government of the United States of America, as a response to the Chinese army movements, is still in place. The souring of the relationship between the two countries was a result of the dynamic shift in global politics on account of the Russian attack on Ukraine. However, during all the chaos, a hardware manufacturing company operating out of China introduced a new Bitcoin mining chip.
The media reports suggest that the new design of the mining chip can advance the semiconductor manufacturing process by leaps. The technical review of the chip posted by TechInsights has been making rounds in the upper echelons of the cryptocurrency sector since its debut on July 19th. The blog post highlighted that the Chinese manufacturers are using 7-nanometer technology for the Bitcoin mining chip production process.
Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation
Jenny Leonard and Debby Wu from Bloomberg also picked apart the finer details of the new mining chip production process by SMIC China. The reporter at Bloomberg claims that the new chip is going to be 14-nm semiconductors and be two generations ahead of the current latest and most efficient models. The article also highlighted transistor is going to be much smaller and lighter in size, making for a greater processing speed at the same time.
During the tenure of a Republican candidate as POTUS, the Trump administration imposed a trading ban on SMIC Corporation in 2020. The administration claimed that the government was taking the steps on account of a national security threat. The chip manufacturers at SMIC were purported to be working for the Chinese military division, according to the Trump administration.
Sanctions on Chinese Chip Manufacturers
US Senator Marco Rubio and Congress representative Michael McCaul have approached the Commerce Department of the United States of America on the matter of SMIC. The two senators claim that the US authorities should go into action and ensure that SMIC is unable to share its latest chip manufacturing technology with the Russian military.
The two politicians have claimed that Biden Administration is actively working on the matter and ensuring that the allies of the USA can ensure that semiconductor production is contained and managed with great efficiency. The statement also claimed that America wants to take every step to ensure that they remain ahead of the competition at all costs. It is worth noting that political tensions between the two countries have resulted in an induced shortage of mining chips in the past, causing a visible decline in Bitcoin hashrates.
